About Me
Sharmistha RoyChowdhury ( b. 1974)is a visual artist who lives and works in Kolkata, India.
She has a Masters degree in Science from the prestigious Calcutta University, India and has worked as a banking professional for 20 years of her life. In 2019 she blurred her corporate background and went on a journey of self-discovery and entrepreneurship. As the world succumbed to the Covid Virus in 2020, she compulsively slowed down and turned back to what has been healing to her always-ART. She developed a meticulous and tedious self-taught art practice that is mostly based on converging various elements of folk art.The core of her unique style is derived from Madhubani Art, a communal folk art based on the life and style of the people of Madhuban in Bihar India. She chose her medium as archival ink and black is the predominant colour on paper or wood surface in all her artworks.
